I found the story interesting, but mostly because I learnt some new things about pro tennis. Shriver did raise some interesting issues but I'm not sure they were worth a book in this way.
Apart from that, I did not find either main character particularly sympathetic, which I know it's what Shriver does, so perhaps more importantly, I didn't find their chemistry convincing at all. We know what we know only because of a whole lot of exposition. Further, Willy (who was meant to be absolutely vain about her game at the start) never seemed to have the conviction about her abilities that I expected on the basis of what we are told about her. Eric was always a 2D character to me.
However, I can imagine others having quite a different reaction, especially if they have a better opinion of this story as a vehicle for discussing the issues it raises.
