The author masters narrative tension so brilliantly that I couldn't put the book down. The author walked me through last century's history of Columbia, through the streets of Bogota and took me on a road trip around the country driving through spectacular landscapes and surprising secluded areas. He introduced me locals as well as Americans from exchange missions to help rural inhabitants. A fascinating story about people whose paths cross by chance and who are torn apart as unpredictably as they come together and without fully understanding the reason why things happened one way or the other. It is the fate of a random well-to-do family whose fortunes spirals downhill, a personal journey of self-discovery and an insight into the links between USA and Columbia. Fabulous title. Mesmerising story-telling. Enchanting prose.
