I put off reading this book because I thought I would find it too depressing particularly with the current situation in the UK / World with Covid, the Climate Emergency and the dreadful mismanagement of the UK by the current government.

I actually found it quite uplifting in a strange way. MOS comes across as a man of integrity and much greater intelligence than the variety of guards and interrogators he came across. I felt absolute rage at the stupidity, cruelty and injustice demonstrated by the US establishment in the way MOS and other innocent parties were (and still are in some cases) dealt with. Overall I'm really glad I read the book and that MOS was finally released.

I think this is one of those books that defines our society and has such deeply moving narrative, in the same way that Fear No Evil and Spycatcher did.
I never even knew this book existed until I saw the film. If that's a proper translation then I am sure the book will be shocking and uplifting. The film was incredible. If the book is even half as powerful I will need to buy another copy to send it off again.
