The cover carries a quote from the Independent "If ths collection can be said to have a clear uniting theme, it might be that by a certain stage of life we've all got at least one person we would really like to kill"
I was particularly touched by the last story "Torching the Dusties" which reminded me of an elderly neighbour I used to visit in her own home and later in the care home where she spent her last couple of years. In the story, Wilma has Charles Bonnet syndrome, where someone with failing sight "hallucinates" things that cannot be there to make up for the lack of input from eyes that no longer see. Wilma sees dancing pixies in elaborate costumes, my neighbour used to see grass, brick walls and later on, children.
This is an easy to read and entertaining collection, recommended!
