saw this in a charity shop and it looked intriguing, so I brought it (despite not being supposed to be gaining any more books!)

This has been on my shelf for some time, so long that I can't remember where I brought it. It is far better than I expected it to be and has a huge amount of information on a wide variety of subjects woven into the fabric of the book. The kindness of strangers is a major theme, as well as the evil of the cast system and the untouchables. He is also a kind man too, going out of his way to help a young woman who had had an accident. What is amazing about the book is that it is true.

I struggled a bit with the style of writing, which was quite stilted in places, however this wasn't a major problem. And nice to read a book about India which has a happy ending!

I felt like reading something random one evening, so rummaged through the mount TBR and picked up this one.

Nice story, and not a bad read. The style of writing is somewhat old fashioned, or maybe the tone of the translation is a bit off, as the language is not really flowing. I was surprised the book was "only" ten years old because of this.

Over the years I've read lots of books about India as I used to be fascinated by the country. Reading now about India also takes me back to those years and brings back memories of those other books and places where I've read them. It's almost like an era of my life is defined by the books I was reading then - nice to revisit!
