Chicago, 1950. An S&M supermodel, a visionary mafioso; a dying editress of pulp fiction, a legendary horror novelist; a screenwriter stuck in a warzone, a crippled stunt woman; a McCarthy blacklisted cinematographer-turned-pornographer, two warring godfathers, and a heap of Nazi gold. Three perfect heists--same day--same place.

Whoo-ee what a cover! The guys at work liked it. Also, it appears that the package had been run over by a truck, tire marks all over the envelope. Kinda fits with the book, can't wait to read it!
Received from kafka via relay. Thanks for the postcard, I moved here from Tempe 9 years ago, lived in Flagstaff for 12 years before that. I miss the desert and the sun.

American-style pulp fiction from across the pond.
The cover of the book promises sex, excitement, action. Unfortunately, the text doesn't quite deliver on this promise. The idea is certainly interesting: Page-esque wannabe actress cum bondage model and her Mafioso-braniac-pipe dreamer boyfried who are looking for the good life. The terminally ill editor of a terminally ill horror magazine and her lost-boy posse of writers who get together to collaborate on one last big story. All are headed for a massive collision at the climax of the book. The idea is good, and at first, the characters are interesting. Hovever, the plot bogs down as the characters spend too much time examining their navels and trying to second-guess themselves. The book ends with an uncharacteristically surrealistic bang.
Dissapointing like an elaborately wrapped birthday present that upon opening, is nothing more than a pair of flannel pajamas.
