International First-Page Roundabout - 2nd Edition
16 journalers for this copy...
And this is how it works:
You will receive an envelope with copies of the first pages of books.
1. On receipt of the envelope with the excerpts make a journal entry.
2. Read the excerpts and decide which books you would like to read. Remove the excerpts of the books you picked.
3. Edit your journal entry and let us know what you thought about the excerpts and why you picked the ones you picked.
4. PM the owner of the books you're interested in by letting them know the number of the book you'd like to read.
5. Replace the excerpts you removed with your own excerpts. Add at least as many as you took out! Write a number and your BookCrossing name on it and note down which number is which book in case somebody requests it. Do NOT write the title and/or the author on the excerpts! It's supposed to be a surprise. Only books in English!
6. Contact the next participant and send the envelope with the excerpts to them.
7. If somebody requests one of your books post it to them a.s.a.p.
8. If you receive a book you requested please edit your journal entry again and let us know what the book was (maybe with a link to the journal?).
Please read and pass on the excerpts within 3 weeks. And please make a journal entry on receipt and a release entry when you pass it on. Thank you! If you would like to take part in another round let me know and I'll add you again at the end.
And most importantly: Have fun!

Yogischoko #2 pretty sure I read it
Tsjara #1 financial AND a personal crisis - too much drama for me
catsalive #1 an actor and a PR person - doesn't sound that promising
catsalive #2 mhm, erotic (?) dreams involving Lederhosen sounds a bit weird - the quote on top of the page caught my eye though - a maybe
catsalive #3 guy with a hangover - no
catsalive #4 sounds intriguing - a maybe
catsalive #5 don't know what to say about that one :-/
chawoso #1 a crime story, I like those - another maybe

wal-89 #3 read it
Mysteriousmummy #1 not my cup of tea
Mysteriousmummy #2 read it and really liked it
Mysteriousmummy #5 sounds interesting and I love the stars on the page - another maybe
Mysteriousmummy #6 also sounds interesting - and another maybe
Nataliec7 #1 mysterious - another maybe ;-)
BooksnBeer #1 religious
BooksnBeer # 2 snow
BooksnBeer #3 find the style really hard to read
So, I am restricting myself to 2 picks. And the winners are:
Mysteriousmummy # 5 It is: Ross Mackenzie: zac and the Dream Pirates
Nataliec7 #1 It is: Colm Tóibín: The Testament of Mary
I'll pass this on as soon as I have Merolias address. Hopefully before my holiday.
And I'm adding:
LilyKlip #1 goes to Boekentrol. It is: Iain Pears: Stone's Fall
LilyKlip #2
LilyKlip #3 goes to Tsjara. It is: Angela Carter: The Bloody Chamber
LilyKlip #4 goes to Boekentrol. It is: Kim Newman: The Hound of the D'Urbervilles
LilyKlip #5
Here are my thoughts on the excerpts:
LilyKlip #1: Nicely written, but I’m not interested in the protagonist.
LilyKlip #2: I’m guessing a romance, so no.
LilyKlip #3: Same here, though probably a historic novel too.
Lilyklip #4: Something to do with Sherlock Holmes? I’ve only read the originals.
Lilyklip #5: Mystery/thriller?
Bluezwuzl #4: Doesn’t reveal much and doesn’t catch my attention.
Yogischoko #2: Romance again, but it seems there is something more to it...
Tsara #1: Economic depression, better not.
Catsalive #1: Doesn’t reveal much, but the edition doesn’t look promising.
Catsalive #3: I can’t make out much.
Catsalive #4: Thriller/mystery in the USA, not interested.
Catsalive #5: Nice edition but doesn’t reveal much.
Chawoso #1: Crime story, straight to the point.
Chawoso #2: This one is much more explicit, grim start though.
Wal-89 #3: London and gardens, this was in my shortlist.
MysteriousMummy #1: This was in my shortlist too, rich in information.
MysteriousMummy #2: This one too, unconventional and interesting beginning, but still a beginning with a death...
MysteriousMummy #6: I know what this is, though I haven’t read it. I'd like to read it one day but for now I prefer a surprise.
Booksnbeer #2: Nice writing but doesn’t reveal much.
Here are the ones I chose:
Catsalive #2: Looks like a thriller and a provocative one, probably nothing like I’ve read before
Wal-89 #1: I like how it fully shapes a character in such short space
Booksnbeer #3: Very interesting, far off in time and space
Booksnbeer #1: I believe it’s a historic romance but the setting is very tempting
I have sent a pm to the owners and replaced the excerpts with Merolia #1-4.
EDIT 17/2: Two arrivals, looking both very nice!
Booksnbeer #3: http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/5117024

EDIT again:
Catsalive #2: http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/11809482/

Thanks, Merolia, for the New Year card!
Here are my thoughts:
LilyKlip #1: A very intriguing first page, although it is a sad & dark beginning. To be considered seriously.
LilyKlip #2: This one doesn't keep my attention. Do not find it interesting enough.
LilyKlip #3: I do not like the style of writing or the subject that's brought up.
LilyKlip #4: Very interesting. To be considered seriously.
LilyKlip #5: Okay, although a bit too confusing for my taste.
Bluezwuzl #4: A very detailed page. Hm.... To be considered?
At this point I already got quite some interesting pages. Wonder how many I'll end up with?
Yogischoko #2: Sounds like a romance or chicklit. Not for me.
Tsjara #1: Intriguing, interesting. To be considered seriously.
catsalive #1: This first page did not really keep my attention.
catsalive #3: I'm not interested in hangovers, their causes or their consequenses. So... no thanks.
catsalive #4: The first sentence is WOW, but then the rest of the page doesn't really hold my attention. Will skip this one.
catsalive #5: I think this one is heading for romance, so I'll skip this first page.
chawoso #1: Oh yes!!
chawoso #2: A very sad beginning, so I'll skip this one.
wal-89 #2: Very small print. This sounds familiar, I don't take the risk.
mysteriousmummy #1: Like the one before this: very small print & has a familiar ring to it. Won't take the chance.
mysteriousmummy #2: Read this one already.
mysteriousmummy #6: Not really my kind of book or style of writing.
booksnbeer #2: Read this one already.
Merolia #1: Sounds very interesting. To be considered seriously.
Merolia #2: Hm.... Doesn't sound very interesting, nt in the mood for a book like this.
Merolia #3: Intriguing! to be considered seriously.
Merolia #4: Yes!
Well, all first pages I'm taking into consideration are:
LilyKlip #1
LilyKlip #4
Bluezwuzl #4
Tsjara #1
chawoso #1
Merolia #3
Merolia #4
That's too many. At least that's my opinion for now. I'll sleep on it and will get back with my definitive choices later.
Soooo many tempting first pages...
I decided to keep:
Merolia #1 & Merolia #4
LilyKlip #1 & LilyKlip #4
Bluezwuzl #4
Tsjara #1
chawoso #1
I'm a bit on the dark side these days, or so it seems :-)
Replacing them with Boekentrol #1-8. Will PM the owners of the first pages of my choice.
I had a few copies ready, will make the rest tomorrow and get the envelope out early next week.
I already have fifna's address.

Released 7 yrs ago (5/1/2016 UTC) at Roosdaal, Vlaams-Brabant / Brabant Flamant Belgium
CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
I chose Tsjara's #1. It will be a good, light summer read, I hope :)
Edit July 22nd, 2016:
Sorry for taking a little longer and sorry for not commenting all excerpts, but live got me and so there is not much time left for my hobbies...
I decided for:
rodespringbal #1: sounds interesting, how people reflect about not listening to others. Curious to know the reason for that.
Book arrived and it is still (or again?) very realistic... "Brown" by Franck Pavloff
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/13040435
chawoso #2: seems to be a family drama with children taking care of sick parents and being responsible for a family much too early in their life...
Andrasthe #1: The very first sentence intrigued me. "The woman lay bleeding on the pavement..." People around, seeing the murderer, but no one does anything... Is that real life? Unfortunately more and more so, and therefore I want to know where the plot is set...

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Edit 31/08/2016: Sorry for keeping the excerpts longer than three weeks.
rodespringbal #2: A story about a Portuguese (?) fisherman; doesn’t sound much vivid and might be a bit boring for my taste.
LiliKlip #2: A story about a theatre actress some decades ago; doesn’t sound interesting to me.
LiliKlip #5: About an author who wrote mystery novels and is living in New York; sounds not bad.
catsalive #1: A story about an actress with a real or fictive (?) attack at the end of the short first page.
catsalive #3: Sword fighting at a party and a drunken guy; sounds like some weird students’ association, but I don't think, that it's about that.
catsalive #4: This might be a crime novel playing in the United States; doesn’t sound too bad.
catsalive #5: Might also a crime story, but an older one.
wal-89 #3: Very small print and footnotes; I think this might be a classic novel and not my cup of tea.
Merolia #3: A story about time travelling? Sounds interesting.
mysteriousmummy #1: A historic novel? Not my taste.
Boekentrol #2: A morning scene between a married couple – not really nice.
Boekentrol #4: A story playing at the end of World War II; sounds somehow interesting.
Boekentrol #5: A story playing on a cruise ship; a crime novel maybe; I would like to turn the page now.
Boekentrol #6: I think, this must be a classic novel; tanslated from German?
Boekentrol #7: A Chinese novel? Sounds not bad.
Fifna #1: A story about a New York journalist; sounds not bad.
Fifna #2: I can’t really figure out the genre, but it seems not to be my taste.
Fifna #3: A story from World War II playing in Berlin.
Tsjara #2: Starts with somebody staying in hospital; sounds a little bit complicated and boring.
Tsjara #3: About a Japanese (?) who finds a piece of diftwood; not my writing style.

Samingo #3: About a lawyer; not my taste.
Samingo #4: A murder in a London museum; sounds good.
Samingo #5: About a student in Cambridge; sounds not bad.
As I haven't read the books from last round yet, I decided to take only one this time. My choice fell on boekentrol #7, because the novel seems to play in China and might be totally different from what I generally read.
(Edit 12/09/16: The book arrived. :-) It is "Wives of the East Wind" from Liu Hong.
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/8617079)
I took out my old #2 from the previous round and added three other excerpts.

Lilyklip #1: Probably crime
Lilyklip #2: I’m sure I’ve read this first page before (or more of the book, but don’t remember it, which is not a good sign…)

Catsalive #1: I remember that one from the previous round, not interested
Catsalive #2: Again I feel something bad is about to happen, but not really interested

So… 7 maybes, I need to narrow it down. Three are more intuitive choices, without many clues. Two are crime, promising something more. And another two have a very definitive character, very different from the rest and from each other. I’ll post again tomorrow with my choices and, if everything goes according to plan, with the release notes to the next participant.
As for Lilyklip #2, I was curious enough to check and I did read that one, only a few months ago - shame on me!
EDIT-updates
Mysteriousmummy #6 arrived in no time, it's "The magicians' Guild: The black magician" by Trudi Canavan http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/11202439. I'm super excited, I'm so much in the mood for fantasy this year.
Bluezwuzl #2 turned out to have been chosen by mysteriousmummy before me, and she so kindly sent it to me as soon as she finished it, it's " The Red House" by Mark Haddon http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14399698.
Dolphinqueen #1 promises another magician... "The magician" by William Somerset Maugham http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14910901. Wow, big surprise, I don't think I've read anything like it, except perhaps classics like Dracula. Interesting!
And last but not least, Fifna #3 arrived, "The Road to Jerusalem" by Jan Guillou, mediaval historical fiction, just as promised by the first page.
Thank you so much everyone!
I will make my choices and comments shortly...
Thanks, Merolia, for a parcel full of wonderful things! :)
Dolphinqueen 2: Childhood memories, it made me want to read on,
Fifna 1: An old lady with her birds?
Fifna 2: A British policeman story.
Mysteriousmummy 1: Fate and Gods playing games? Not interested.
Mysteriousmummy 2: Last days of a beloved professor. Too sad.

Bluezwuzl 1: A White Christmas in England.
Bluezwuzl 3: A funny recall of her own death?

Lilyklip 1: A man blown up by his own bomb. Not interested.
Lilyklip 2: Richard Mayhew in London... this sounds familiar,
Rodespringbal 2: The Old man and the Sea?
Catsalive 1: Promisingly funny.
Catsalive 2: Faced by a stranger while buying Chinese noodles. Not my cup of tea...

Dolphinqueen 2 and Merolia 5.
And of course, replacing with Bookworm-lady 1 and 2.
This was fun; I will ask for Catsalive's address in order to send the folder to her as soon as I get my First Pages ready... :)
Edited to say that I will PM Catsalive again (today, February, 14th), and haven't heard from Dolphinqueen. On the other hand, Merolia answered my PM right away... :)
"A Widow for One Year", by John Irving
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14012196/
A nice surprise, I must say... a book that has been travelling, but no-one seems to have read it so far, I might be first...
Thank you, dolphinqueen! :)
"The Book of Tomorrow", by Cecelia Ahern
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/13728026/
Thank you so much for sending it, looking forward to reading it.
By the way, I have just realized that the folder seems to be taking a very long time to arrive... maybe it's the distance...
Catsalive doesn't seem to have been very active lately...
Edited on July, 17th: Still no news... :(
My apologies to all of you, particularly Bookworm-lady who sent this to me & LilyKlip who organised it. I have just found and opened this envelope today. It was buried in a box of things that haven't been touched for a very long time.
I'm afraid life has got in the way & I've been absent from BC for a couple of years. Only this month have I started pulling the BC-threads into some sort of alignment.
I assume you all went on without me in a different place, so this JE will be a surprise for all of you.
LilyKlip, What would you like me to do? Should I just discard what I have here? I don't think I owe any books.
Regards,
catsalive
Thank you for getting in touch, catsalive. No worries. Sometimes there are more important things in life...
I would say you can just dispose of the envelope. I don't know about anyone else but I didn't hold on to the books I put in.
I hope all is well in your life now, catsalive; maybe we can start a 3rd edition?
I'd be interested in participating in a 3rd edition but I don't have time to organise it. Are you up for it? Feel free to copy and paste the information on how it works! But maybe check in the forum first if there's actually enough interest. ;-)
