Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness

Picked this up at Bookleggers, Miami's pop up library. I've read Fuller's earlier memoirs, Don't Let's Go to The Dogs Tonight and Scribbling The Cat. In her third memoir, she returns to Africa and her unforgettable family, telling the story of her parents in her trademark voice that is funny, exotic and honest.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Putting into the Memoir Book box.
I am taking this book out of the Memoirs bookbox organized by mrsjones. I have read the author's first memoir but not her second memoir. However, this book, her third book, is primarily about the life of her parents so not reading the author's second memoir should not be a problem.
It was painful, at times, to read about the struggles of the author's parents trying to build a life for themselves in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and finally Zambia. Yet, by the end of the books, the author's parents did carve out a successful niche for themselves in Zambia.

Introducing Nicola Fuller of Central Africa!
Alexandra Fuller tells the story of her parents, Tim and Nicola Fuller - how they came to live in Africa and the trials and tribulations of their life on this unforgiving continent. While she writes the story of both her parents. it is mostly focused on her mother, Nicola Fuller of Central Africa (the full title which her mother has given herself).
Life in Africa was not easy and often times almost unbearable. The family suffered greatly at times, yet this was their way of life and always came through to the other side. After all the rough patches her parents experienced and worked through, they were finally able to find a niche for themselves in Zambia, where they have become successful at fish and banana farming.

Received the book today. I am looking forward to reading this book. Thank you for sharing it with me.
Living in Africa at the time the author’s family did certainly was a hard life. There are times when it broke my heart.
