When this book first came out in hardcover, I found the cover fascinating. A friend gave me the book and I really enjoyed reading it. Bill Bryson writes with wit and humor about his attempt to hike the 2,100 mile Appalachian Trail. He and his friend encounter some interesting things along the way including another hiker named Mary Ellen. I'd like to try hiking the trail myself someday.

I enjoyed reading this book because it took me someplace I have never been before. I am curious to see what my friend Lenore thinks about it.

I receive this book from workinglead in Rosemead and am eager to get into it. I have just finished the first 2 chapters and the hikers are ready to begin their trek! I have walked a bit of the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin and am eager to see the comparison.

I finished the book last evening, and reading it was most enjoyable. Bryson's humor is delightful. I really liked all the background information on the area, mountains, and cities along the trail. I am passing it on to a friend here at the college who is from eastern Ohio and has been to some of the cities, but has not hiked any of the AT ... yet.
