Nick Dunn looks like a nice guy albeit a bit awkward. Times are hard, and he has lost his job as journalist and has started up a bar, where he works with his sister. He is married to Amy, a fellow journalist who has also lost her job. When he had the idea of starting up the pub, the marriage returned to Nick's village town. But to his own admission, the idea turned out to be a disaster.

Amy is used to a higher level of living. She was the inspiration for his father's stories about Amazing Amy, the perfect girl heroine. The character has grown at the same time that the real Amy, and the human feels the pressure of inadequacy. She is snobbish and likes playing games, like a kind of hide-and-sick treasure hunt to celebrate her wedding anniversary which made me think that she was sick in her mind.

Suddenly she disappears. Nick calls the police, but things doesn't seem to add up. He can't account for his time, there is weird expenditure through his credit card. Amazing Amy's fame and her parents' interference make the story interesting for the journalists. But Nick doesn't look like a warm caring person in distress. He looks cold and detached in front of the camera, which makes him look guilty of god knows what.

For once, I liked the film more than the book. The suspense takes a lot of pages to increase throughout, although I have to admit that the book goes quite straight to the point. All in all, it is a suspenseful psychological thriller.
