I had been meaning to read this for quite a while! I won't recap much: A set of young twins in India and what happens to them and their family when History takes its toll. The narrative loops around, unravels, layers like the petals of a dense flower (I'm thinking mums)... how the actions of one character changes the actions of another character. I'm sure the time shifts were confusing to some readers, but I liked it and could see what it was doing. When the writing really focused on the interior of some of these characters and took a microscopic approach to them, like Ammu's back story, I think that was my favorite part of the book. The close back stories were the best. The one problem I had with the book was SO many small details included unnecessarily. But then I almost slapped my forehead when I realized the purpose of this was IN THE TITLE. So I had to forgive the narrative for that. But the back stories were wonderful and had wished more page time had went to those. But I like the microscopic level here, but also how it is macroscopically tied together in the end.
