Hm, my copy doesn't have a pink cover.

Anyway, despite being his most generally well-known book, Gen X isn't my favorite of Coupland's works. I think it may have struck more of a chord with me if I were 5-7 years older, or if I had read it shortly after it came out (which I'm not, and I didn't). Nonetheless, it's an interesting complement to his other writings, if you're a groupie like I've become.

if portugal wasn't such a backard country, where everything happens 10 years later, i'd find this too too old for me... but apparently i belong to the generation-x and didn't even know about it. however, as these things are never as straight foward as that, there is a sort of estrangeness from our times, despite the anguish and aloneleness that remain.
apart from the little side notes, which are brilliant, where the book affected me the most was in its self-consciousness, that is, the need we seem to have to live our lives through stories. i wonder if one of the things that has changed indeed is that i prefer reading them to listening or telling my own...

I guess it mights have a great market share effect to appeal for all a generation, but for me the author didn't manage to avoid from stereotipyng, in all those nothing to do characteres. Where does start and where does end a generation is a hard question to answer, if such thing as a generation exists.

I am going to send it to then next person in the bookring list
