This book by one of my favourite writers is travelling to the winner of the International Canadian Literature Sweepstakes.
Thanks, NorthernLights.
These may have been cleverly-written but they didn't appeal to me. I found them all fairly tedious & frustrating to read. I'm not particularly fond of short stories, unless they are pearls of the art of short-story & I find them interestingly told. Perhaps I have failed this book, as much as the book has for me.

I think after this, i'm going to get some of his other books!
Out of all the stories, I gave this such a high rating due to the One About Coyote Going West & A Coyote Columbus Story. These were amazing. I also really enjoyed A Seat in the Garden, and Borders.
Have to admit i skipped the first one ironically called One Good Story (i found it wasn't that good..) and also skipped How Corporal Colin... & Joe the Painter.
I thought Totem was good but weaker than the others.
There's a magic to Thomas King's writing, and an authenticity and ownership to the language. I find the points made both in Coyote (viewpoint, naivety, innocence, as well as short-sightedness) are told with a lot of humour and vision, Totem was good as the materials in the story reflected how histories can jarr. I especially liked Borders, how definitions can be frustrating and stubborness can be painful but can also pay off.
I wasn't sure when i started reading these, if i was going to get into it but it takes a bit of getting used to - the underlying meanings, and how they can be applied to most people's experience of life.
