Stupid White Men: ...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation!

The French love this book as it feeds into their disgust for the USA. It has also done exceptionally well here in Australia. It is eye-opening, funny, shocking and annoying all at once. Parts of this book are very good but I was often irritated by Moore's style and posturing. Much of the second half of the book focusses on himself and his family and he comes off as a huge egomaniac which distracts somewhat from the important issues he raises. Having said that, he has written a very popular book which has educated many people as to the real workings of US Government policy and execution which they might not have been made aware of otherwise.
In an "open letter" to President Arafat, Moore suggests mass nonviolent civil disobedience, "...you must lay down all arms, lay down your bodies in the middle of the road and then...just wait...If you want, I will come and join you in your nonviolent protest. It's the least I can do after helping finance the bullets and bombs that have killed your people."
I suppose he would too...if he could bring his cameras.
