Oryx and Crake

From Amazon:
Pigs might not fly but they are strangely altered. So, for that matter, are wolves and raccoons. A man, once named Jimmy, lives in a tree, wrapped in old bed sheets, now calls himself Snowman. The voice of Oryx, the woman he loved, teasingly haunts him. And the green-eyed Children of Crake are, for some reason, his responsibility.
'In Jimmy, Atwood has created a great character: a tragic-comic artist of the future, part buffoon, part Orpheus. An adman who's a sad man; a jealous lover who's in perpetual mourning; a fantasist who can only remember the past' - Independent

I'm never going to read this as it's too sci fi for me, so it's off to Feuerzeug11 for the European Wish List Tag. I think it's much more up your street :)
The postman handed me the book today. He also gave me an evil eye as if I were a terrorist, receiving a parcel from the Emirates. Paranoid, all of them! :))
Anyway, thanks a lot! I'm looking forward to a fascinating story with Oryx and Crake.

Wow! What an intriguing story! It got me hooked right at the first pages :)
Being a non-native speaker/reader I had some difficulties reading this one. Atwood used lots of youth slang which I'm not familiar with. And then there were the hybrids. It wasn't easy to figure out which animals they came from.
Anyway, it was a wonderful read and, I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.
