Loved this book - the characters gripped me from the first page. Members of an Asian-American family trying to find their identities and place in the world. A glimpse into the history of the Red Guard in Qinghai Province of China. Won this book on Goodreads so leave a comment there too! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1117871802

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Taking this book to the Bookcrossing monthly meetup (second Saturday at 11 am).
Michael Tang and his sister, Emily, have both struggled to forge a sense of identity in their parents' adopted homeland. Emily, an immigration lawyer in New York City, baffles their mother, Ling, by refusing to have children. At twenty-six, Michael is unable to commit to a relationship or a career--or come out to his family. And now their father, after a lifetime of sacrifice, has passed away.
When Michael finds a letter to his father from a long-ago friend, he impulsively travels to China in the hopes of learning more about a man he never really knew. In this rapidly modernizing country he begins to understand his father's decisions, including one that reverberates into the present day. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world,

This was a lovely book.
Taking this book to the June BookCrossing meeting to be enjoyed by the next reader.
Picked up at the June Calgary BookCrossing Meetup
This was sitting on my shelf for awhile before I got to it, but I’m glad I finally did. I really enjoyed the story being narrated by 3 different characters, you got different viewpoints of the same occurrences, which was really interesting. I found that I was more absorbed in the characters themselves and their various predicaments, more so than the mystery surrrounding the dad character, which the entire novel was centred around.
I am bringing this book to the September Calgary Bookcrossing Meeting.

Returning to Calgary BookCrossing group
Got these from a BookCrosser to return to circulation. I am sorting the books and either passing directly to a Calgary member who has requested it or returning it to the person who introduced it to the group. Hopefully this one will find a new reader soon!
