Disappointingly, the momentum from the first novel is not sustained and it creeps along until the end. In this, the trilogy is rather typical of film trilogies, in that the middle one is usually the one that lacks impetus.
And, as for the first novel, there is a noticeable lack of interest in describing places or in character development.
I've not seen the films, but I shall. I think they will be better than the books as it seems to me that the narrative is driven the author having her eyes set on the film rights.
