The Dive From Clausen's Pier : A Novel

Well written - great dialogue - excellent descriptions of emotion, agonizing conflict, soul-searching in the primary characters. Lots of medical/hospital/therapy detail which may be a turn-off to some people. Also explicit sex, but written with tenderness rather than exploitation. If these things would bother you, don't read. The implication of early-on expected sexual intimacy (way before friendship, emotional/spiritual intimacy, commitment) in relationships does make one question the "co-dependency" and neediness of modern times -- especially as applied to women. But that's just my wondering. This author certainly writes with contemporary values, but with sensitivity and reality well-blended. It's a good read, but not great.
