Niu Voices: Contemporary Pacific Fiction 1 is a collection of poetry, short stories and novel extracts by selected Pacific writers, edited by Dr Selina Tusitala Marsh, lecturer in English at the University of Auckland.
From back cover
"Niu, the life-giving coconut of Pacific nations, has become symbolic of many styles that are growing in Aotearoa New Zealand, but rooted in island soils. These Pacxific influences flavour creativity and strengthen the fibre of Pacific cultures and customs as lived in this new/niu context. The coconut juice of the works in this collection is deeply infused with local tastes and flavours.
"From serene island settings to the dusty streets of urban tropis, this collections spans island memories of these descendants of the Cook Islands, Fiji, Hawai'i, Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Wallis and Futuna. They tell stories of New Zealand homes, of love, relationships and identity."
I am not especially keen on short stories and some of these were not to my taste. "The Love of Lia", and "Bus" were two that I found interesting and informative but it was "The Risky Journey to Belong", an extract that had the potential to be a really great tale, that I especially liked.
It was also surprising and interesting to see the varied cultural mix of the 31 authors whose writing was included Because a significant number of them had Samoan heritage that I've counted this book as from Samoa. I enjoyed reading this collection, gained information about places with which I was not familiar, and can highly recommend it.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Including this as a surprise with a book to book-a-neer for the Southern Cross Book Exchange.

There were elements of the book that didn't particularly grab my attention but the ones that did made up for that. Hope you find some things to enjoy b-a-n.

As you can see I've not included my usual release notes but hope you can remedy that omission - please.

This came as a companion to another book. A good choice since I like stories from unusual countries. Thank you.

Released 1 yr ago (12/16/2022 UTC) at Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Sending this out as a companion book.

Sounds like a really good book for the 666 challenge except that I just don’t have the time to read. Thought it would be best for others to get a chance to read it.
