The Rosie Project: A Novel
8 journalers for this copy...

Don is a genetics professor who has Aspergers syndrome. He wants to find a wife, so he designs the Wife Project (it's always in caps in the book), an extensive questionnaire to sort out unacceptable women. They must be non smokers, non vegetarians, of a certain body mass index, punctual, etc. It's ridiculously funny as he muddles through attempts with women & shares the results with his friend's wife, Claudia, who is a psychotherapist.
Gene, Claudia's husband & Don's coworker, is not your usual husband even though his marriage is an open one. He wants to have sex with a woman from every country in the world & is making good progress toward that goal. A map of that project is on his office wall. Meanwhile, he sets Don up with Rosie, a bartender. She could not be further from his type, yet he keeps enjoying her company much to his surprise.
At first, it appears that he is changing Rosie, but as it turns out, he's the one making changes. That turnaround alone makes the book worth reading. It's one that will make you smile.....

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
warm, funny, easy read - on it's way to the next reader

Bowled over, star-studded thanks due to both valpete & Vekki for their help. To explain, tentatively on Thursday 20 November I enquired if it may be possible to join this Book-Ray and today, yup… four days later, I have the book in hand! THAT’S ONLY FOUR DAYS LATER! Need I say I'm THRILLED!
Intrigued by Mr Simsion’s surname, wonder if it may originally have been spelt Simison which is a name local to Orkney. Orkney being the birthplace of my Mum and as we have visited a lot over the years it’s a place I love too. Right, here’s this JE and next thing I shall get down to it after I’ve eaten. Yahoo, this sounds captivating.

The Rosie Project had by the time I finished it slid into my “Book Treasure” category of book. I loved this.
I was puzzled though, early in, by the concept of Don not seeming to be aware that he had Asperger’s. As to have achieved the level of learning commensurate with his securing a lectureship and yet to have such challenges with social skills would have been a disparity that called attention to itself from his earliest years. However, happily as the book progresses this issue was addressed.
Don’s, key-word people descriptors, his dead pan delivery of logical thought and exacting detail when least expected by some he interacts with are classic Asperger’s moments. Oh, how I smiled - lots and lots - ending up with sore, grin-cracked cheeks! What a treat!
Am I ever glad I asked to join this Book-Ray, I found these ‘right on the button’ reviews quoted on the cover;
“Sometimes you just need a smart love story that will make anyone, man or woman, laugh out loud.” –San Francisco Chronicle
“Bursting with warmth emotional depth, and intentional humour.” –Entertainment Weekly
“An utterly winning screwball comedy.” –NPR.org
“Filled with humour and plenty of heart, The Rosie Project is a delightful reminder that all of us, no matter how we’re wired, just want to fit in.” CHICAGO TRIBUNE
I would like to re-read The Rosie Project so will be buying my own copy. Well, at least for starters then I will ferret out additional copies to gift to chums and to BookCross.

This must have done a bit of sightseeing between Scotland and the Alps, but the book sledded up our mountain this morning. I'm very busy work-wise, and have to do a bit of reading for my next term courses first, but I'll try to get to this as soon as things let up a little. Thanks so much for sending, and thanks so much for making this book available.

Quite reminiscent of The Curious Incident of the Dog at Night-time, but the main character is an adult, and a highly-functional one with a smooth set of coping techniques in place. I enjoyed this ring very much and am thinking of buying it as a present for at least one person. As extraordinarily difficult such a character would probably be on a day-to-day basis, Don is so endearing in his structured life... Despite a very busy schedule I devoured this one. I'm not sure how realistic this is - which is perhaps why I find this so much more enjoyable than The Curious Incident... - it's so much easier to relate and empathize with the main character in this one.
I've written for the next address and hope to be able to send this on soon.

On a roll - this is now on its way to Germany - hopefully it won't collide with any of Santa's elves or reindeer and will have a quick journey. Thanks so much for making this one available. I've already ordered a copy to give as a present, and hopefully it will arrive in time. Any thoughts for a ring for the sequel?
Meanwhile for those yet to read it: Enjoy!

For the bookcrossers who can read in French the incredible Josef Schovanec does a great job explaining how he comprehends the world.

After 2 PMs no news from Fracula. I checked her bookshelf and saw that she had registered an other copy.
This one being a ray I suppose that I'm free to send it elsewhere.
Edit : Fracula confirmed that she has another copy.
