City of Bones (Mortal Instruments)
2 journalers for this copy...

Bought this at a library used book sale.
I earread a copy of this in 2011 and had this to say then. Incidentally, after reading nearly the whole series, I like the Infernal Devices series much more than this series. But I still liked this book :-)
After reading Clockwork Angel I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I liked it all right, though I'd heard the characters were just poor imitations of the ones in this book. I went into this, expecting to not like it as much, simply because I'd like Clockwork Angel well enough. I was also wary because this was the author's first book and the main character of Clare's book is named Clary. It screamed of Mary Sueness! However, I snarfed this book down and, completely in love, desperately had to get more.
This world of modern shadowhunters, vampires, warlocks, fae, werewolves, and demons is a vivid and amazing one. And even though it seems like a story you would have heard before (girl's mother is kidnapped, girl turns out to have a rogue mastermind of a father bent on destroying the world, girl finds out about a hidden world full of people who can help in her quest, girl finds out where she truly belongs) it still comes through as fresh and original and a WHOLE lot of fun. I loved all the little twists and turns, trying to solve the mystery, trying to get to know all the little pieces of the world and the puzzle.
The characters are fantastic. Clary is bold and observant but completely out of her element. Simon is confused and nerdy, but a fantastic friend, even when faced with the crazy that is his best friend's new life. Hodge is amazing, wise, and shocking. Luke is all kinds of reliable, sweet, and strong. Jace is egotistical but you can't help but love him. Izzy is slightly annoying but realistic. And Alec is just plain adorable and awesome; especially his crush on Jace and the way he resents Clary's presence.
I loved every second of this book.

Releasing this in my YA Bookbox in hopes that it will find a new reader.

I took this from the bookbox. My friend said it's really good.
