Thank you so much for this book and the rest of the goodies (Halloween postcard, Scottish related bookmark and fridge magnet, tea and chocolates!).
It fits nicely into D for December Challenge so I will probably read it sooner rather than later. Happy Samhain!

Young Adult fiction. The story of times in which technology is witchcraft and people go back to the Dark Ages. In that particular aspect The Weathermonger was an interesting concept since most futuristic novels tell the stories of machines taking control over people rather than of their withdrawal. I'd expect a bit more elaborate plot though, even if it's just a children's book.

Thanks NowINkA.

cover blurb:
Britain - the future. The bond between Man and Machine has been severed. Technology is witchcraft. It is a time of hardship. It is a time of fear. It is the time of The Changes...

Sixteen-year-old Geoffrey is the town weathermonger. He can make it storm, freeze or shine, but even this position of power doesn't protect him from his neighbours' outrage when they discover him meddling with machines. Condemned as witches, Geoffrey and his sister Sally flee to France - where they discover a land unaffected by The Changes.

Armed with new knowledge, they return to England on a secret mission, determined to discover why the country is under this mysterious spell. If they can identify the source of this deadly magic, then perhaps they can find a way to free the people from its destructive influence.

I thought the ending was a bit silly but I did enjoy Geoffrey & Sally's wild ride across England in the old Silver Ghost Rolls. Needless to say, the pair manage to free England from the anti-technological grip of the strange forces. Arthurian legend has a lot to answer for.

A good kids' read with enough story to interest adults as well. It kept me interested but, having read the other two books, The Devil's Children & Heartsease, I thought the ending a bit of an anticlimax. I still enjoyed the ride.
