Rivers of London is the first book in a series that follows the adventures of a young constable of the Metropolitan Police attached to an obscure unit that specializes in something the regular force barely acknowledges exists - magic. Led by the formidable and enigmatic Chief Inspector Nightingale, Const. Peter Grant must utilize regular policing with his fledgling skills as an apprentice wizard to solve the crimes no one else is equipped to handle. A mix of Inspector Morse and the Harry Dresden books, this series is urban fantasy at its best.
Released with the monthly Hamilton BookCrossers meeting at Ye Olde Squire pub, on Fennel Avenue East in Hamilton.
I don't know why this sounds so familiar to me, especially because it is not a genre I read very often. However, between the title, the cover art and your synopsis - I'm going to give it a go!
I found a box in my storage closet with a lot of random things - you know how when you're moving and there's odds and ends left on the last day and you toss them in one box altogether? Well, in this box was about half a dozen bookcrossed books. This being one of them and it looks like I never read it. So it's up next on Mount To Be Read and I'll journal again soon!
(Hi Raina - hope you are managing the pandemic and today's stupid weather!)

I loved this!
It is a perfect balance of WTF and reality of a police procedural. The characters are interesting and likeable - even the ones that aren't meant to be!
I am hooked and now need to hunt down the rest of the series. Mr. Google also informed me that there is a video version of these novels.
Thanks again Raina!
