Eilis Lacey has come of age in small-town Ireland in the hard years following World War Two. When an Irish priest from Brooklyn offers to sponsor Eilis in America, she decides she must go, leaving her fragile mother and her charismatic sister behind.
Eilis finds work in a department store on Fulton Street, and when she least expects it, finds love. Tony, who loves the Dodgers and his big Italian family, slowly wins her over with patient charm. But just as Eilis begins to fall in love, devastating news from Ireland threatens the promise of her future.

I devoured this one, amazed at how quickly I read it. Such a great story of a young woman finding herself, a career and finding love all in a new country. All of this gets questioned when she...not giving the plot away. Read it, you will enjoy it. Thank you for sharing it with me.

Happy Reading and Happy BookCrossing!
Thank you for sharing this book with me. I have never read anything by this author, but after reading the reviews, I am looking forward to reading this. Thank you again for thinking of me. Also, for the book marks.
Found the writing of this book similar to Betty Smith in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I read this book today. Eilis is a complicated, but simple woman. She finds herself in America alone. I can only imagine how scary that would be. SPOILER: I am not sure if she really loved Tony or she just thought she did because she was lonely and he was so nice.
I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 because I felt the ending was a little rushed and her encounters with Jim just didn't seem to fit.
