Cute story about a couple trying to mix north Indian and south Indian cultures in a romance leading to a love marriage and the troubles blending their families. I learned a lot about Punjabi sentimentalities in this book. This book picks up where 5 Point Someone left off; the main character in this story, Krrish, is Hari from 5 Point Someone who was modified into a combination of Farhan and Rancho for 3 Idiots.

The movie, 2 States, starring Alia Bhatt was remarkably faithful to the book and made for a decent, if not a super-hit movie. The biggest omission in the movie that was better in the book is the detail surrounding the inspiration and development of the party where Ananya's mother does her public singing. Also, I wished there was a little more Tamil language in the movie as I really liked how Bhagat described his non-understanding of it in the book. The movie was almost exclusively spoken in Hindi.

In sum, kudos to Chetan Bhagat for being both a successful novelist and having so many of his stories adapted to the screen.

Since Chetan is pretty popular with young-adult Hindustanis I will attempt to find a release spot where this book will most likely to find an appreciative reader.
