When Cal Weaver stops at a red light on a rainy night while driving home, he ignores the bedraggled-looking teenage girl trying to hitch a ride - even when she starts tapping on his window. But as soon as he realises she's one of his son's classmates, he knows he can't really leave her, alone, on the street. But nothing prepares him for the consequences of trying to help her out. The next morning he's gone from Good Samaritan to Murder Suspect and with one girl dead and another missing, he's suddenly at the centre of a deadly puzzle that reaches right to the heart of the town - from its bullying police force to its strangely furtive mayor - and finally to one family's shocking secret.

I was going to give this 9 stars but then couldn't think of any reason why I shouldn't give it ten. Cal Weaver stops at a red light when a girl taps on his window and from this moment forward, he is plunged waist-high into a thrilling but dangerous mystery. I was addicted to this book from the word go. It is a multi layered story of tragedy, love, hate, mistrust, which provides the reader with surprises at every turn of the page. It is filled with twists and turns right up until the final chapter and I was constantly on the edge of my seat. Characters that were seemingly insignificant totally surprised me which I loved.

Taken out of the bookring with a piece or room of a house in the title. As my TBR pile is massive it may take me a while to get to this.
