Behind Sad Eyes: The Life of George Harrison

'Picked up this bio on George Harrison (who's from my favourite band) while In Toronto at my fave book store, BMV. Happily, BMV reports they will not go the way of the wrecker's ball when a giant condo near Yonge and Eglinton is built and they're actually having a very good year. (Unlike so many other indies.)
I didn't follow George's solo work much, but always found him intriguing. Despite his reputation as the "quiet" Beatle/the guy overshadowed by John and Paul, George was a really funny, upbeat guy, and despite all the spiritual searching…he was no saint!
From the back cover: "Shapiro creates a complex portrait that shies from melodrama…this volume brings keen perspective to both (Harrision's) great contributions and bland failures." (Publisher's Weekly). A few years ago I read another George bio - "Dark Horse" by Geoffrey Giuliano. It was OK, and I thought I'd give this one a try and see if it's better. (Phil Norman's book on Lennon was amazing…) Update: This is a so-so bio. I think I'll get "I, Me, Mine" - from the (Dark - LOL) Horse's mouth!
