I am sending this book to amatullah in New Brunswick. It was on her wish list.

Wish? Did someone say wish?

Mekka lekka hi mekka hiney ho!
Mekka lekka hi mekka chiney ho!

The wish is granted. Long live Jambi.

Received this book a few days ago (or I only got to check the box then!) Thanks *buttonbright* for being a good bc-genie and the funky postcard. I just finished White noise by the same author and can't wait to dig into this one :)

If you're familiar with DeLillo's work you'll probably feel it's not as engaging as his other books/essays, but it's very effective in portraying that specific aspect of a post-modern world. It's short but not effortless to read. It really takes you to that place where people have deep pains, hardly any communication, confusion, and boredom.

So...is it a good book? It is in the sense that I think the writer acheives what was sought out to begin with by making the reader experience those negative states. This is made obvious in a reference in the text itself by the main character who is an artist (I think interpretive dancer) where she had people walk out of her show before it's over because she was trying to show the slow passing of time when you are in pain and they just couldn't take it. But it also isn't a good book in terms of plot and keeping the reader's attention/interest. There is a tight balance which keeps flowing even though it's disjointed on many levles. That's why the 6.

It really has to be read in one-sitting type book. Good thing it's not long. DeLillo measured well, once again.
