This - obviously - is in German - it's Shirley MacLaine's autobiography Out On A Limb (how the heck is there one word in German that means that?!) I was at Berkelouw Books in Mittagong (country NSW - a glorious barn full-o-books a little pricey but a booklovers haven) and found this on the discount tables. It's well loved and shows it but it's a good book - I read it a while ago - in English! Hope to be able to pass it onto someone who'll appreciate it...

The book joins my TBR-Pile (whose proportions are down to foothills - I´m proud to say) and is destined to travel on to... ups... I´ve forgotten the screenname - but I was smart enough to put it down in my profile....

Shirley MacLaine verpackt in ihrer autobiographischen Erzählung ganz viele esoterische Weisheiten - das liest sich wie eine Einsteiger-Fibel in die Welt der Esoterik. Einer der Punkte "materialistisches Denken in den Hintergrund zu stellen" - das kommt einem bei einer berühmten Schauspielerin, die wahrscheinlich nicht viele solche Sorgen hat, ein bißchen wie Luxus-Philosophie vor. Ich fand´s aber gut, wie sie ihre eigene Entwicklung schildert - auch wenn man den Inhalten vielleicht nicht folgen kann, ist ihre Gedankenführung durchaus nachvollziehbar und verdient Respekt. Ist aber nicht so ganz meine Welt und ich habe das Buch dann auch nicht mehr ganz zu Ende gelesen.

Shirley MacLaine incorporates esoteric lore in her autobiographical story - this books reads like a beginner´s guide into the world of esoteric. One of the topics "putting materialistic thinking into the background" - coming from a famous actress who probably doesn´t have many materialistic problems anyway - that seems like a bit of "luxury-philosophy". I liked the way she recounts her personal development - even if you don´t agree with all the thoughts and ideas - it´s still easy to follow her train of thought and this in itself deserves respect.
It´s just not my cup of tea generally - and I have to admit I didn´t read it to the end.

Das weitgereiste Buch, dem man sein aufregendes Leben doch schon ein wenig ansieht, steckte heute in meinem Briefkasten. Danke für's Schicken an trygvasson und natürlich an Georgie-Shaw =)
Sobald ich es gelesen habe, melde ich mich wieder.

The widely-travelled book was in my mailbox today - thanks to Georgie-Shaw for sending it from Australia to Germany and to trygvasson for sending it to me. =)
I'll write more as soon as I've read it.

Shirley MacLaine nimmt ihre Leser mit auf die Reise - auf ihrem ganz persönlichen Weg zur Spiritualität. Wir dürfen miterleben, wie sie trotz ihrer anfänglichen Skepsis ganz allmählich immer weiter geht, ungewöhnliche Gedanken zuläßt und neue Möglichkeiten in Betracht zieht. Vieles von dem, was sie beschreibt, habe ich auf meinem Weg auch schon erfahren, auf einiges warte ich noch.
Mir hat das Buch sehr gut gefallen. Wenn es nicht vorher von jemand weggefangen wird, geht es eines Tages mit meiner zweiten Seelen-BookBox auf die Reise.
