Very interesting story of "Dr" Linda Burfield Hazzard and Claire and Dora Williamson, two of her patients. Mrs. Hazzard was a so-called doctor of the "fast" cure, where patients were made to survive on tomato and asparagus broths and endure daily enemas to cure them of whatever malady they thought they had. In reality, she was likely to kill the patients through starvation, but not before securing as much of their wealth and property as possible. The Williamson sisters were English heiresses who fell under her spell. The younger one, Claire, died, and the other almost did, but for the intervention of a family nurse and friend. The doctor was brought to trial and convicted of manslaughter, served 2 years, and returned to her practice. This book details the treatment and trial.
