I found this book in the FreeCycle Zone at my apartment building. Since I know someone who is a practicing pastafarian, I thought this would make a great gift.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

"A book is a mysterious object, I said, and once it floats out into the world, anything can happen. All kinds of mischief can be caused, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it. For better or worse, it's completely out of your control." -- Paul Auster

This book is now headed to Oklahoma and two of the very few people in that state who have been touched by the Noodly Appendage.

I found this book and I wanted to make sure that it had an updated journal entry before moving on.

I had a box of books that I packed up to send to 6of8 because the books in it all needed to travel to other BookCrossers and not just be left at random. The box sat sealed for YEARS and I never found the money, time, or actual inclination to mail it. I even forgot what was in the box!!!

It was very hard to find a copy of this book in Oklahoma at the time it was sent to me and after Lucia and I were finished with it I didn't want to just leave it randomly. I will give BCinDC first crack at it and if no one grabs it I will add it to a LFL or Wild Release.

This book is not one to read cover to cover ... or is it? I had the tendency to pick it up, flip through it, look at the pictures, leave it to one side and then pick it up yet again.

As I mentioned before this is a strange sort of book for a wild release and I think that Oklahoma would have found it quickly in the bin as loud Protestantism reigns supreme ... but passing it along to interested BCinDC folk seems to be a fate this book deserves ... may it check in again one day and give us much enjoyment!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

This book is going with me to the BCinDC meeting at the house of ResQgeek ... our first in-person meeting for a long while (due to a global pandemic) and MY first in-person meeting in lots and lots of years as I have been living in Oklahoma a far commute. [I am currently staying at the house of melydia but will be middle USA bound once more in a short while.]

This book came back to me, being left over at the end of the meet-up today. I am setting it aside for Gaithersburg Book Festival because we always need as many non-fiction books as we can get.

Journal Entry 9 by wingMelydiawing at Rockville, Maryland USA on Monday, May 23, 2022
This was leftover at the end of the 2022 Gaithersburg Book Festival.

I read another copy of this years ago and this is what I had to say then:
---
It all began with a letter to the Kansas school board. The basic idea behind the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) is that religion should not be taught in science class. Intelligent Design Theory, which posits that an intelligent designer (not explicitly stated as God, but it is implied) is responsible for the way life and most other things have developed over time. Since the existence of such a designer can be neither proved nor disproved, it is not a valid hypothesis, but this doesn't stop the ID advocates. Henderson's argument is that if we're going to give students "choices" and "teach the controversy," they should also include the theory of FSMism, which has "scientific" explanations for everything from gravity to global warming, all of which is just as scientifically valid as ID. It also encourages carbohydrate consumption and non-murderous piracy. The whole thing is utterly ridiculous, of course, but that's the whole point. If you are at all sensitive about religion, this is not the book for you. I got a couple giggles out of it, but most of the funniest material is already on the FSM website. Now only one question remains: have you been touched by His Noodly Appendage?
---

I hope to continue its journey soon.
