Hour I First Believed

This is the kind of book I enjoy very much: a long, reflective look at how ordinary people are changed by extraordinary circumstances. Nobody in this book is a flawless hero, but everyone is interesting and believable - they're people you care about and are happy to spend a long time getting to know.
The writing is exceptionally good. As you can tell from the back cover summary, part of the story is a recovery of past events. Those segments held my attention possibly even more than the contemporary story, and even built up some real suspense. Needless to say, there are some surprises in store for you.
And the performer, George Guidall. Oh, how I wish I were wearing a hat, so I could remove it as a sign of respect! He's recorded over 900 audiobooks, but he must still put in countless extra hours studying each text. Every time I hear him, I'm amazed at the skill he brings to his interpretation. The pronunciation and pacing are perfect, but even better is the way he communicates a speaker's state of mind. At one point Caelum, the main character, is in a bad mood, and we know from Guidall's reading that he's going to be lashing out against others even before he knows himself.
But that's just one person's opinion. Future listeners, what do YOU think of this book?
