I love Geraldine Brooks's People of the Book, so when I found this in a used bookshop I thought I'd give it a try, but it's such a depressing topic.
I'm going to pass this on to my sister when I see her at Christmas. She is a fan of historical novels and recently read and enjoyed March, by the same author, though she said that was also a depressing book. I'm a bit worried for Geraldine Brooks, such macabre topics to immerse yourself in. Although they are all best sellers so I guess I could wonder about the readers as well. Mea culpa.
