I really enjoyed this book after the initial 50 or so pages. This is the story of Jemima Jones a 27 year old Londoner, who is to put it plainly Fat, she is lonely, awkward, self conscious and in love with Ben, he hunky coworker who views her only as a friend. She and her co-workers discover the internet together and Jemima goes online and discovers internet dating. When the guy she's been talking to sends his drop dead gorgeous picture, she knows she can't send one of her fat self, so she sends a doctored picture of a Jemima much thinner, this starts her on her quest to be thin. Who would have though she would be so beautiful once she was thin?
This a a great weight loss success story, that teaches a lesson about life, love, and self esteem. Two things I disliked about it: #1 the portrayal of fat people, and that it is told simultaneously in first and third person. Still a great read, that I couldn't put down, I read it in just over 24 hours!

I'm taking this out of the chick lit bookbox. I've been wanting to read a Jane Green book for quite a while, so I was excited to see one in here.

This is the first Jane Green book I've read, and I thought it was pretty good. I'd definately like to try another one of her books.

High on my list of Chick Lit TBR!

The author made too many generalizations and too many stereotypical statements about the main character, Jemima, for me to really say I enjoyed this book. I did want to see it play out, but most of the time I was equally irritated and saddened by Jemima. It turned into a shallow piece of ChickLit long before the story drew to a close, and that was a shame since it could have been much more enjoyable. In the end, I was only halfway curious about Jemima's outcome; her object of affection Ben became my compelling reason to finish the book.

Judging by the pictures drawn in Jemima J, Jane Green didn't seem to really understand the plight of women living with obesity, thus taking a great idea and falling far short of what could have been. She also had this incredibly irritating habit of pulling the reader out of the story entirely to speak to the characters. It seemed as if Green couldn't decide whether the book should be told in first, second or third person, and every time it happened in Jemima J, I just wanted to slap Jane Green. Not the best way to keep readers, I'd say.

This was a fun read, very entertaining escapism. I thought many of the plot twists were implausible, but other than that it was a treat to read. I'm going to pass this book on at today's Shanghai bookcrossers meet-up.
