I only read about 150 pages, starting with book five (The Return of the King).
Reading this book was like getting into a excruciatingly painful conversation with a socially inept PhD candidate who wants to explain the finer points of something hideously boring.
I have no idea how Peter Jackson was able to wonderfully translate it to the screen, and if he doesn't win an Oscar for best adapted screenplay all voting members of the academy should be beaten about the head and face.
On a side note, I thought the English were notorious for their dislike of public displays of affection, but there is much boy-boy platonic love in the book.
