Brave New World

Published in 1932, this book warns of the danger of genetic engineering leading to the "breeding" of human beings to fulfill specific roles in society. According to the American Library Association website, this book was one of the 100 most challenged books of the 1990's (see the ALA's Banned Book Week page).
Offered on the book relay site (Banned Book relay), and accepted by midwinter. To be sent at the end of December.

Getting caught up on registering books. This one is going to Mount TBR - I'll write a proper journal entry once its been read!
I've been catching up on a lot of classics this year (especially banned books) and, despite all the hype and expectations, I find myself rather "meh" on this one. It was an interesting premise, but I didn't quite find the same sense of menace or shock I was expecting. I think the concept of a utopian society has been rehashed so many times in popular media since the 1930s that the impact of this book has been minimized. Still, it's the one that set the standard for the genre, and it was certainly worth reading.
