I enjoyed this book very much. He even writes with an accent! He details every step of cooking meals in Barbados, Africa, in villages, and on plantations. While I no longer eat pork, I bet every meal this author cooks would be delicious. He dedicates an entire chapter to split pea soup, which I bet is killer, as well as his sweet potatoes. A good read! I will share this book with a friend.

This is a culinary memoir written by a preeminent Caribbean writer, of his childhood in Barbados. The language is beautiful, evocative, colorful. He describes how he learned traditional Bajan cooking -- food with origins in the days of slavery, hardship, and economic grief -- by listening to his mother, aunts, and cousins talking in the kitchen as they prepared each meal.
I received this book as a gift from my birthday buddy, Whiskey Jane
