On the road, on a hot Arizona night, Dylan O'Conner is overpowered by a stranger who injects him with an unknown substance. All he's told is that he's a "carrier", not of a disease but of something wondrous that will transform his life in remarkable ways - if it doesn't kill him in the next 24 hours.
Now Dylan, his autistic brother, Shep, and another "carrier", a young woman, are swept into a desperate search for the shattering truth of what they are and what they might become. But first they must elude those sent to destroy them.
Their only chance is to discover the meaning of the messages that Shep, with precious time running out, begins to repeat, about a man who does his work... By the Light of the Moon.
I really enjoyed the story but it ended rather abruptly. I wanted a bit more.

Dean Koontz is a very entertaining, gripping writer. I'm going to save for one of those times that I'm just looking for something to get lost in....
This is a strange book. He's very readable, with skills at drawing character and funny or spooky interactions. This one doesn't quite end. I guess it's good that it's not any kind of usual formula. If you know you like Koontz, you'll probably enjoy this. Otherwise, I'm not sure it's a good introduction to his work.

Thank you for sharing this book with me. It arrived today in the mail.
Started this book this afternoon.
So glad that I did not give up on this book. I almost did, but decided to keep reading. By the Light of the Moon was a surprising book. It was one in which the reader couldn't quite figuring out the doctor's motivation and in particular why he picked Dylan and Shep initially to carry on his "life's work". As more details are revealed so is the connection. Each of the three main characters Dylan, Shep and Jillian have been injected with a secret serum and it has a different effect on each of the characters. By working as a team the three are able to develop strategies that help them to avoid being caught. Shep is autistic and yet his "power" seems to be the most unusual and magnificent of the three, a real gift. Jilly, a total stranger to Dylan and Shep until that strange night when they were injected, becomes a real part of the "family". She has wonderful patience with Shep and his actions related to his autism. In addition, Koontz does a great job of exploring autism and what it must be like to live with and be responsible for an autistic family member.
