Taking this to Venice to walk in the Commissario's footsteps.

Invaluable resource in Italy if you enjoy the setting for Donna Leon's books about Commissario Brunetti. I walked all over Venice in the early morning, thus getting close to a few street sweepers and locals commuting to early jobs but avoiding the heavy tourist numbers. Some streets were absolutely deserted and lit by one lamp way down the far end so a deliciously "Don't Look Now" feeling pervaded. The maps are clear and much more detailed than the available tourist maps and of course there are the accompanying choice excerpts from all the books. Highly recommended to pack for Venice and lovers of Donna Leon's works even though it weighs a little.
