A Spell for Chameleon is the first novel in Piers Anthony's Xanth series. While it doesn't score points for plot depth or complexity, this book still works well and is enjoyable to read. It concerns Bink, a young man on a quest to discover his magical talent in the fantastic, pun-derful land of Xanth. Anthony has a fluffy, lighthearted, fun approach to fantasy.

Wow - look what turned up in my mailbox. I had given up on these books - it has been almost 2 years. It just goes to show you - you never say never.

I will read these and pass them on to the next bookcrosser in the list - I hope they are still around? I do have a few bookrings in front of this, so I can't start them immediately - but, I will read them as quickly as I can.

Started this one today - I am really looking forward to reading something completely different. I also have to laugh about Xanth looking like the state of Florida. I will write again when I finish this.

I really enjoyed this book. I have read the other Pier Anthony series - Pale Rider - and really enjoyed that also, so I had a certain expectation. This was published in 1976 and the whole while I was reading this I was saying it was the precursor to Harry Potter, or a more modern version of the Arabian Tales. One aspect of this series that sort of bothered me a little bit, was the book stated the conclusion of a trial, instead of letting the reader come to their own conclusion. Maybe that was the trend or desirable of writings in the 70’s. I am well into the second book and I will write more after I finish that book.

One more note - I hope nothing unfortunate happens to Crombie??
