To my surprise, I found in a charity shop all four books of this series together; so I read them all back to back. To start with, I had to keep coming up for air; but after a while I could immerse myself in Ingo for large parts of a book...
Ingo is the magical world of the sea, inhabited by the Mer. Some humans have Mer ancestry, and can make the transition into Ingo, including the protagonist of this book, the teenage Sapphire Trewhella. The adventures of Sapphire and her brother Conor, as they explore Ingo with their Mer friends, are skilfully woven in with the more domestic difficulties of their family life: their father is missing, presumed dead; and they find it hard to accept their mother's new boyfriend. Especially when he dons scuba gear and prepares to violate one of Ingo's most sacred places...
The adventures are made more immediate by the first person, present tense narrative, something not many writers could pull off.
I'll keep this for now; maybe release it one day - it needs to go to the Cornish coast! Having found both the Ingo books and the Thora books in the same shop, I can't help wondering if there is a local mermaid enthusiast getting rid of her (or his) childhood collection...
Next Book: The Tide Knot

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I'm sorry to say I didn't even think of these books when we went to Cornwall a couple of years ago. Today I released all of them in and around Weston-super-Mare.
This one went at Winstons, where we bought lunch - on a shelf of leaflets near the door of the restaurant.
