Good book. This is the story of Tita, born to be the prop of her mother's old age. Instead she pours her love, her life, her joy into cooking. With surprising results. I was a little disappointed, as I wanted her to have a normal life with Robert, but then again, I like Jane Eyre better than Wuthering Heights.

Thanks, quietorchid, for this great wish list book and the extra labels! It's nice to cross paths with you again - it's been a while.
I like Wuthering Heights AND Jane Eyre so it will be interesting to see if I'm pleased with the ending of this book or not :)

Sent this sweet book to my new friend ReallyBookish for the Wishlist Tag Game. Enjoy!
Received today. Thank you so much for this book from my wishlist. I'm looking forward to reading it!
I'm in the minority here, but this one didn't quite work for me. I really struggle with works in translation, as I tend to feel that something truly has been "lost." That was the case with this novel. Somehow I never managed to connect with the characters emotionally. The book also contained some elements of magical realism that I found a bit too strange for my tastes. I'm not sorry that I read it, but it did take me several weeks to get through this brief novel and at one point I contemplated abandoning it. As mentioned, I'm clearly in the minority on this one so there's a good chance the next reader will enjoy it more than I did.
