Journal Entry 1 by Carax from Barcelona, Barcelona Spain on Tuesday, December 9, 2003
This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read.
You will meet a young indian boy named Pi (You 'll know what's this name after) and read about his childhood in Pondicherry. There he (and we) will learn to love nature, be tolerant with the different religions and.... sheer adventures! It's an absolute pageturner!
Just take a look on the Journal Entries what people have written about it
It is the 2002 Booker Prize Winner

well, at first, I found it a bit long and slow, though I loved the part about religion.
then, it is really thrilling and amazing.

thank you Carax

I have the book!

Journal Entry 6 by torksoul from Boston, Massachusetts USA on Saturday, May 8, 2004
Faced with the difficult task of commenting on a book that’s already had an infinite amount of attention, I prefer to contribute my personal reading experience rather than raise the same over-discussed and exhausted issues; as far as plot and intention is concerned, I am sure that I have nothing new to add. As a non-believer, I nevertheless found it extremely stimulating to discuss the book with a devout Christian, who saw some very different implications in the ending - without giving too much away, I (very crudely) took the “interesting story” to be a metaphor for God, while she chose to actually believe it (because, presumably, she doesn’t need a metaphor for God). I think I’ve confused myself a little, so if anyone can enlighten me on what I actually mean, that would be much appreciated!

As for the feelings I had while reading, here’s what I scribbled in the book:

I have been reading this book on various journeys, most memorably on a plane from Paris to Rome. A funny thing to be reading about while peering precariously out of the mini-window onto a boundless sea thousands of feet below, imagining the possibility, more likely than during moments of relative safety while reading on hard, dry land, of having to put the survival advice detailed here into practice. March 2004.

It’s actually quite hard for me to say whether I liked this book. Certainly, I enjoyed the highly imaginative scenario and was moved by the hero’s survival instinct and plight. I couldn’t for a moment comprehend people whom I’d read commenting on the boredom they experienced at some point in the middle of the book. However, I guess I have to admit that the vague philosophical ending actually spoiled the beauty of the story for me rather than making it more meaningful. At the same time, I don’t imagine that the surviving-on-a-boat-with-a-tiger story could really have stood alone and gained respect as a novel. I can see exactly why this book has become a bit of a cult, and I congratulate the author upon his story-telling skills as well as the ability to create hype, but I’m not sure I entirely buy the suggested philosophy behind the story.

This will finally be off to Landrellec on Monday. I'm terribly sorry about the delay.

Journal Entry 7 by landrellec on Thursday, May 27, 2004
Thanks Torksoul.
No problem for the delay, don't worry !
I've started this morning, on the tube. Well, I'm intrigued by the author's introduction...That's a good start, isn't it ?

Journal Entry 8 by landrellec on Tuesday, June 8, 2004
Well, it's not an easy task to comment on this peculiar book. Being a French native speaker, I had to look up a few words, quite specific to a boat details...
I liked the part about the religions, as I'm no believer...It brought some thinking about faith, god(s) and being myself among all that.
Next, I was dubious about the long description of his seafaring life. Well, my fears disappeared quite quickly : that's just an incredible story !!
I PMed Kel1uk a couple of weeks ago, to no avail...
I'll try again, but if anyone's got her/his address....

Journal Entry 12 by Mymlan from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Monday, January 3, 2005
Thank you, the book had arrived during my holidays! I'm reading another bookring book at the moment, but as soon as I'm through, I'll get to this one.

Journal Entry 13 by Mymlan from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Tuesday, February 8, 2005
Well, this is certainly one of those books it is hard to put down. The story is absolutely thrilling, and the style is very good too - and I liked the short chapters.

I liked the discussion of animal lives and needs, I think the author very well captured the beauty of animal life: to be perfectly contended when all physical needs are fulfilled. I didn't like the religious discussions half as much, even though I found interesting the idea of belonging to various religious orders. But I think that the book didn't bring me anything that would make it easier for me to understand religious belief.

The book will be off to Cheesepuppet this week.

Journal Entry 14 by Mymlan from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Wednesday, February 23, 2005
I'm sorry it took me so long, but the book finally got on its way to Cheesepuppet. Thank you, Carax, for sharing it!

I caught this book at least two years ago now, and I'm finally letting it go again. I'm sorry it took so long! For a long time I thought it was lost. I loved the story, but found the ending rather disappointing.
