WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Read years ago - looking for some interested readers!
I've been wanting to read this. Looking forward to it.
A really well-reasoned, well-researched look at religion and Mormonism through the prism of one shocking news story that comes, not out of Mormonism, but out of one of its fundamentalist spin-off religions. I already knew quite a bit about Mormonism and its history, but this was a gripping, involving look at its history and its current situation that kept me interested, and did teach me a number of things I didn't know.
The Mormons don't like any history that is potentially unflattering, so they don't like this book, but I think that it's very even-handed, especially because Krakauer puts his cards on the table about his approach to the story and his interpretation of Mormonism. He also provides a pretty useful introduction to some of the most exhaustive books on Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, and the religion. I highly recommend this book.
