Journal Entry 2 by Nefertete from Oosterhout, Noord-Brabant Netherlands on Friday, December 19, 2003
Today the book started its journey around the world. First stop is Australia.
Wow! What am impact this book made on me...I've been thinking abnout what to write but can't seem to find the words to fully express my feelings from reading it. I was continually astounded that Aldous Huxley wrote this book in 1932. Unbelievable! I find my eyes are just that little bit more open now to the world around me and as a result - slightly scared. Thank you Nefertete for starting this ring!
Will PM Astania now...

Wow! I need to say that too! :o) I finished this book three days ago and I am so glad I signed up for this ray. This book is excellent, no wonder it's a classic. Huxley is so insightful not only regarding the uses and misuses of technology, but also regarding human nature. I knew this book could only have a sad ending, but I was still surprised at the end. If you are a fan of writing, you will also enjoy Huxley clever neologisms and his style. I particularly liked his going back and forth from one character's thinking to the next in the same paragraph. It really gave a sense of urgency to the writing.
I read 1984 a couple of years ago and felt the same impact that I had reading this one. I hope Arwen-Galadriel will enjoy it as much as I did.

Received book last night in the mail and started reading on the bus this morning. Will journal more once I have finished.
I finished this book last night and have sent the book along to the next participant, dutch-flybaby.
I finally decided to read this book after seeing that it was going to a bookring and after having a couple professors at school suggest that I read it, not that I hadn't wanted to read the book before that. I very much enjoyed the book even with it's depressing view of the future. Hopefully we won't become like that. It just makes me want to get up and do something to make sure that it doesn't. I very much liked Aldous Huxley's style of writing and he seemed to make his points clear as to what he wanted to get across. Hopefully more people who will continue to want to read this book in the future.

Journal Entry 12 by dutch-flybabe from Lent (gem. Nijmegen), Gelderland Netherlands on Friday, April 16, 2004
Just finished the book this morning. At first sight the book was not one I would easily pick to read, but ok I had joined the bookring so I was going to try it at least.
I have skipped reading most of the Foreword, it was not palletable.
The first chapter was lots better. I was very amused that in this advanced society they were proud of 88 cubic metres of card index (on page 20). In 1932 the writer probably never imagined some apparatus that could manage all this information (aka a computer).
I missed certain aspects of life in this story; for example there is no mention of eating. Do they eat at community restaurants or at home or do they just swallow a pill with all the necessary nutrients for a day ?
All in all it was ok to read the book, but I would not soon try another book of this author.
I'm pm-ing Nefertete what I should do with the book.
