" "What I Loved "begins in New York in 1975, when art historian Leo Hertzberg discovers an extraordinary painting by an unknown artist in a SoHo gallery. He buys the work; tracks down the artist, Bill Wechsler; and the two men embark on a life-long friendship. Leo's story, which spans twenty-five years, follows the growing involvement between his family and Bill's--an intricate constellation of attachments that includes the two men, their wives, Erica and Violet, and their sons, Matthew and Mark.
The families live in the same New York apartment building, rent a house together in the summers and keep up a lively exchange of ideas about life and art, but the bonds between them are tested, first by sudden tragedy, and then by a monstrous duplicity that slowly comes to the surface. A beautifully written novel that combines the intimacy of a family saga with the suspense of a thriller, "What I Loved "is a deeply moving story about art, love, loss, and betrayal. "

I had no idea what this book was about when I started reading. I only had the faintest idea that Siri was an author that people were talking about and I decided to buy this book on a whim. It's a brilliant book about art, love and loss. Especially loss... it made me cry, in the middle of the train and it made me think about it even when I wasn't reading it. I do hope her other books are as powerful as this one, and if they are, she's got herself another fan.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Going out to the USA as part of the 2013 Birthday Group. I know it's a bit late now but I knew this books was on your wishlist and I just wanted to read it before sending it out. It's a great book, I hope you enjoy! :D
Received today from Nakipa as part of the Birthday RABCK 2013. I loved your review and this will be the next book I read. Thanks so very much!!!!!
I really wanted to love this book. Nakipa's JE describes the book perfectly, but I did find the book tedious in parts and riveting in others. The author describes situations beautifully, but at times it did seem to be never ending. Thanks again for sending my way. I will now make the book AVL.
Left in the condo's library where I live.
