I wanted to like this book, but the whole thing read like it was written by a politician who wanted to paint herself and her husband in a positive light and set herself up for runs for future public office. Some of the material is fine, but there's an undercurrent of pro-big government sentiment in the whole thing that really rubs me the wrong way. And she really just glosses over the topic of abortion. - - "Once a pregnancy occurs, however, we all have a stake in working to ensure that it turns out well." Would you say that an abortion would equate to a pregnancy "turning out well"? Then why is pro-abortion a key platform of the political party that you and your husband have been the stars of for 2 decades now? - - I think everyone can agree that we want to do everything we can as a society to encourage and foster strong families and healthy children. The big disconnect is in how we go about doing that. Mrs. Clinton seems to think that government is the best way to do it. Personally, I think we all need to take personal responsibility and work through our churches and charities at the grassroots and local levels if we're going to have a real impact. Sure, government has a role in making sure we have clean air and water and things like that, but I think history has shown that government (as least at the federal level) is not very efficient or effective at running social programs.
