This rather tatty little book was given to me by BookCrosser ReetPetite, thank you very much, who hadn't registered it on BookCrossing, not being sure how much 'life' it had left in it. I think it'll survive another couple of reads and can think of a couple of people who might like to read it after me so, with her permission, I'm registering it now!
I'm a big fan of Elizabeth Chadwick's Medieval novels, although I don't think she normally goes back quite this far! I love the way she makes the past come alive in a real and sympathetic way and have read them all - except this one! I've had it on my Wish List for years but, as a film-tie in which was published and promoted with the film, it appeared to have dropped from sight over the past nearly 20 years! It wasn't turning up in the secondhand and charity shops I was frequenting which makes it especially pleasing that I've finally got a copy!
My set of EC novels is now complete - until her new one, The Summer Queen, is published in June this year!
Oh, and I've always been fascinated with the Arthurian legends so that's another reason for enjoying this one!

Amazon Editorial Review: "A retelling of the story of Lancelot and Guinevere includes each character from the original legend and finds the doomed lovers and their king in battle against the murderous Malagant."

Enjoyed it! It's perhaps a slightly skewed version of the familiar legends, with the Arthur, Lancelot, Guinevere love triangle taking a slightly different route, but the baddies are vanquished and all is well as Camelot once again rules the day!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Unusually for Elizabeth Chadwick, this was written for a film, sending this out as a wishlist RABCK, with apologies for holding onto it for so long.

Thank you Millycat!
And for the Dreamies chews ( not seen these before) for Mosie and Shadow and for the chatty letter!

All in all I found this a very disappointing read, as I expect better from Elizabeth Chadwick, having read a previous novel of hers.
The research ( albeit I am treating this as Legend!) was poor and the plot too swashbuckling for what I imagined.

I also found some parts very repetitive and unnecessarily so - to the point of reminding me of an inexperienced author, or someone who writes for a lesser literary mind.

There was a lot of jumping forward and this made the tale somewhat disjointed. I can imagine it was not difficult to cast for a film of this book, as it almost read like a book from a film...

I am used to this author's more taxing and better researched work.
