Yes, this really did arrive! Turns out my dad saw it on the kitchen table and took off with it, and it's been hiding by his side of the bed every since. I can't really blame him --- it IS a Far Side book after all! This is next up on Mount TBR (I'm about halfway through my current b'ray).

Journal Entry 5 by appaloosatb from Rochester, Minnesota USA on Friday, February 6, 2004
A good book is...

one that keeps you laughing from start to finish. Gary Larson is so wonderful.

Journal Entry 6 by mysteryfan03 from Moberly, Missouri USA on Thursday, February 12, 2004
Thanks!! Got this today! I love the Far Side. I will get to it after 2 other rays. Cant wait!! I'll have to hide this one from the family or hunt it down too!!

Received from a BookRay. Looking forward to reading this very acerbicly funny man's work. Won't take me long.

Finished this in very quick order, and then read it again. Gary Larson is very funny, but definitely has a twisted sense of humor. I've always thought that with that sense of humor he must have seemed very strange or scary in high school.

It's on its way to d-man on 3/22/04. Enjoy!

Journal Entry 11 by d-nman from San Francisco, California USA on Thursday, March 25, 2004
I read this book very quickly (as with most Gary Larson) and it was great! Although I've read most of these before, they were still wonderful. Sometimes they are so off the wall I don't know where he comes up with them!

I didn't appreciate the humor of Gary Larson's Far Side comic strip until he retired. Thank goodness for these compilations of his work. In Wildlife Preserves a series of themes play out. There are the "so and so" family at home, the "so and so" and his xyz (like Aladdin's lamp, end table and sofa), the various cow jokes (because cows are funny), various bad puns ("Peelings, nothing more than peelings") and so on. Of course every female character wears the classic Larson horned rimmed glasses.

Got the book on Friday! I've started reading randomly, and, well, I just love "the far side"! More later...
Thanks for the laughs!

Journal Entry 17 by KanaPoutz from Cannes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur France on Wednesday, July 7, 2004
Well, I do think that Gary Larson is completely insane...! But so funny! Just love his twisted humor!
Though I have to say I did not get 4 or 5 of them...
Hard to pick one or 2 that stand out, but I think my favorite could be Carl who is sent to "sleep with the humans" with Styrofoam shoes :-))
Thanks again, it will be on its way shortly.

15/07/04 : book sent today

Journal Entry 18 by Xanocas on Monday, August 2, 2004
Received it last thursday and read it at once.

A funny little book, altough I didn't understand a few jokes (they're from a different reality, a different country).

I enjoyed it.

You've got to appreciate the sarcasm and dark humor contained in this book! Extremelly funny, I had a great time reading it. Without the need to use easy jokes, Gary Larson managed to make hilarious cartoons. I recommend it to anyone that loves intelligent humor.

Journal Entry 22 by Rhenium3 from Skellefteå, Västerbotten Sweden on Friday, September 17, 2004
Sorry it took me so long to register this book. I got it the day I left for the states. It is great! Will send it on when I get home

Journal Entry 23 by GSX2 from Aberdour, Scotland United Kingdom on Tuesday, October 19, 2004
Wildlife Preserves reached the windswept shores of Fife from Rhenium3 in Prague. I love it! Classic Larson.

I aways think it's a mistake to try to "tell" a cartoon - and my long-suffering friends would agree - but here goes anyway... My favourite is the one with the bloodhound leading a heavily armed search party through a forest, and the bloodhound is thinking "I can't smell a damn thing."

See! I told you, you have to see it! And you can, too, if you're on the Bookray! Where next?
