All year round, retired schoolteacher Phyllis Newsom is as sweet as peach pie-except during the Peach Festival, whose blue ribbon has slipped through Phyllis's fingers more than once...
Everyone's a little shook up when the corpse of a no-good local turns up underneath a car in a local garage. But even as Phyllis engages in some amateur sleuthing, she won't let it distract her from out-baking her rivals and winning the upcoming Peach Festival contest.
She and all the other contestants guard their secret, original recipes with their lives-and talk a whole lot of trash. With her unusual Spicy Peach Cobbler, Phyllis hopes to knock 'em dead. But that's just an expression-never in her wildest dreams did she think her cobbler would actually kill a judge. Now, she's suspected of murder-and she's got to bake this case wide open.

I thought this was a cozy little murder mystery. I like baking mysteries and this was no exception. However, it also was not exceptional.
Definitely a quick and easy read, and I definitely did not guess who the killer was until right as it was revealed at the end. A bit of a surprise, and almost a bit unbelievable, at least in my opinion.

thanks for bringing this book, Rianonne! Looking forward to reading it.
That was a nice read - thanks, Rianonne for giving me the book! the rivalry between Phyllis and her friend was a little bit overdone to my mind, but maybe this is normal. I cannot really judge, as I would never ever take part in such a contest. roughly from page 150 on I had the feeling to know who the murderer was and in the end it was true. however I did not get all the hints, therefore the attempted murder on Judi was not clear to me. I think it was a good idea to bring up the subject of living with a (lightly) demented person - as we have to face this situation more and more... Summarizing my experience with the book: easy to read, cozy enough to qualify for a cozy mystery and a possible story... good read for summer days, especially with peaches to nibble on at the side...
